How to fix Error 1722

When an Error 1722 message pops up, you need to don your Sherlock Holmes cap. The problem usually starts, my dear Watson, when you are trying to install some software and you receive a message something like:

“Error 1722. There is a problem with this Window Installer package. A package run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.”

From there, you need to do some sleuthing. Is it a problem with the software? Or is it your computer? That is the mystery. You won’t need your magnifying glass, but here are some tips to try to get the bottom of this:

• Restart your computer and try reinstalling the software .
• If the error occurs again, try installing it on another computer, if possible. This will tell you if the error is with your computer or with the software. If it is with the program you are attempting to install, you can check out their website or contact the company for support.
  If the problem does not seem to be with the software, it could be a compatibility issue with your computer. Now you can try:
• Check to see if you have control permissions for the following folders: c:\winnt\temp, c:\wint\installer and c:\documents and settings\\local settings\temp.
• It could also be an issue with the permissions for the Windows Script Hosting. Go to the Microsoft website and download the latest version.
• It could also have to do with your Microsoft Installer itself. You can download the most recent version from the Microsoft website.
• At times, corrupt files and invalid entries in the Windows registry can wreak havoc with your computer. A registry cleaner can scour your PC for these errors and correct them.
• Viruses, spyware and other malicious code can also cause problems. A scan with a comprehensive anti-virus or anti-spyware program is advised.

With some fairly straightforward deductions, 1722 errors can be fixed.
